Everything released so far just doesn't work as good. The developer of cotypist said he doesn't think Apple will sherlock it because it takes up system resources.

Have patiences, man. Even CoTypist took several months to get as good as it is now. As for the CoTypist developer, of course he will say such a thing. He tries to lock you into subscription-based app.

And I wouldn't rule out Apple implementing this in the future just because it takes system resources; at least on the Mac. Macs generally have more resources available, so at least for Macs that don't have the smallest amount of RAM they could offer it. And the benefit for them would be of course that they can sell Macs with more RAM, let's not forget that they earn a good amount of money from RAM upgrades. Apple would profit from giving us software features as part of the OS for free that make good use of RAM, which then together would incentivize users to buy more RAM.
I’m hoping this will become a comparable replacement within the year. (I bought an introductory rate subscription to CoTypist because I use it a lot and couldn’t find any suitable alternatives at that time. I didn’t notice Cotabby until several weeks later. And it’s extremely unlikely I’d pay the same subscription fee again).
Oh I missed the intro rate despite keeping an eye on it, doh.
There's like 4 other alternatives all the sudden that are cheaper or free. They will hopefully get better over time. cotabby so far seems like the best alternative.

From what I've read on various /reddits that comment on Apple and their ecosystem, I get the impression that native English speakers have no idea how bad Apple is at localizing and spelling in other languages. In fact, Apple has never done anything for a huge portion of languages. Why does I say that? Because suddenly (for decades actually) the world was developing AI, and it turned out that it speaks every language on the planet. So, Apple, who was late to the AI party, is taking Google's latest models as a basis and... everything they release is in English! And if they do something in the direction of text prediction in combination with spelling and grammar, it will be, let me put it this way: the Apple way - for an extremely limited number of languages and everything outside of English it will be very bad. The situation is probably not good for English either. So Apple better not push themselves, because it will show how bad they are. I think the main reason they are delaying Siri AI for Europe is not the regulations, but the fact that they are not even ready with the popular European languages. They are quite fat and behind the competition. That's why they are playing "offended miss".

I don’t think so, but I see something like this as a future feature that only models with the local AFM get (so 12GB RAM and M3/iPhone 17pro or later)
The best alternative is Keytype and is getting there
Do y'all actually like Cotypist? I used it throughout the beta and, while it was often impressive and occasionally helpful, I realized it left me weirdly disconnected from what I was trying to say. Even with the clever, diegetic UI, I found myself focusing more on “solving” its suggestions than following my own thoughts. I also had to proofread way more than usual. The concept is cool, but in practice it sometimes felt like it pulled me out of my own voice instead of sharpening it.
Cotypist is actually realllllllllly good. Not well designed but the functionality is great. And yes, this should be part of Apple Intelligence and the OS, replacing the current word prediction system…

I wouldn't hold my breath for Apple to sherlock this one — the developer is probably right about system resources. A system-wide AI autocomplete that runs on every keystroke is a battery and memory hog, and Apple tends to avoid features that visibly drag performance. That said, a few alternatives that cost less than Cotypist: BoltAI — one-time purchase, not subscription. Has inline AI completion across all apps. Not as polished as Cotypist but the price difference is hard to ignore. Friday — simpler and cheaper. The autocomplete isn't as context-aware as Cotypist but it covers the basics well. Alter — lightweight, focused specifically on inline completion rather than being a full AI suite. Good if you just want autocomplete without all the extras. None of them are quite as good as Cotypist yet, which is probably why the developer can keep charging what they do. But for the price gap, BoltAI is the sweet spot right now.
Can we please call it by it's name, macOS 27?
I don’t understand this craze for AI autocomplete. It’s one of those features that apps keep adding and within a day I’m looking for a way to turn it off.
