I’ve been going down the rabbit hole of blocking apps for my phone. Currently nothing works for me. I’ve tried the whole suite of things. I’m trying to have something that just blocks my stuff until I’m done with it. Like when your parents used to take your phone until you finished your work (maybe that’s just me). Any suggestions are great. Thanks

There’s an app called Freedom that works for me.

I do that but I always end up redownloading them like right away

I’ll check it out

I’ve tried but I just couldn’t deal with the delay. That feature of the steps is good though

I don’t see it, can you send the link to it

Came here to suggest Freedom, too.

Nevermind I found it. That’s exactly what I’m looking for, thank you!

I just downloaded another commenters recommendation of Dottle but if it doesn’t work I’ll try freedom

I looked at it but it didn’t give me the option of proving a task was done to get my phone back. Hence why I’m now trying Dottle

I tried that but it’s just a glorified screen time manager.

It's been one month when are u going to answer?

Unrot is a little too gamey for me though.

I’ll check it out.

ScreenZen worked for me. I set mine to where the apps I want to block take over 30-60 seconds before loading and I’m given a 10 minute usage allowance for every 2,000 steps. You can always be generous to your allowance, then slowly make it more inconvenient. Adding slightly more and more inconvenience is what helped me! Also set the app to delay opening so I can’t easily change its functionality.

I suggest getting a Brick! If you want to unblock apps, you have to get up and physically tap your phone to the brick. So there’s less temptation to just override the app.

There are 2 apps you can do, one of them is more similar. There’s Unrot, which is kinda close, but Dottle is like spot on what you are talking about.

Someone else said it, but Dottle. Its exactly what you are looking for.

I’ve started outright deleting the apps I doomscroll on and tell myself I’m not reinstalling it until I’ve finished my job. Surprisingly the faff of opening up the App Store, waiting for the app to download and open works a treat 🤣

On Iphone I use one called OPAL.

I don't think theres anything that you are looking for out right now so I'd just try to find someone that can do the parent thing for you... partner, friend, whomever

Forest is what I used during university. You block a load of apps and plant a tree, if you try open anything on the block list your tree dies. Nowadays I just use the "modes" setting on my phone, you can block apps with that.

on android - StayFocused - very advanced - works best for me - I have tried almost all apps in the space - before paying for its life time pro version.
