So I’m looking for software that lets me add all my media (TV shows, movies) and organize them into ‘channels’ like cable TV. For example, I want show A and show B to play on channel 1, and show C and D to play on channel 2. Then I can switch between the channels, and/or view a channel guide that shows all the channels. As I switch between channels, time still passes in the episodes even when not viewed. Bonus points if the software allows for adding a couple commercials here and there. I’ve seen the work done with FieldStation42, but I’m not really wanting to get a whole separate Raspberry Pi and HDD just to do this. It all seems pretty hard to get up and going, and the scheduler has to be reset every month. I would like to see if there’s anything available on Windows. Thanks in advance.

You would need to host your own server for this as that kind of processing takes a lot of dedicated resources…

Kind of miss being able to flip on the TV and something is just on. Staring at a grid of shows I have in a Netflix-like UI gives me decision fatigue.

It’d take approximately zero resources to pretend to stream a bunch of shows simultaneously but actually only play the one you’re watching and just keep track of how far to advance the others next time you change the channel to them. Though I’m not aware of any software that would do that.

Exactly - this is what FieldStation42 does. When you ‘flip the channel’ it’s checking which channel you turned to, what the TV guide says should be playing, and the current timestamp according to the scheduler. I was hoping to find similar software on Windows but it looks like I might be out of luck.

Maybe Emby can do that.
