I run a store in the kitchenware niche with around 760 products. One issue I've been running into is search. Customers use natural phrases like "28cm non-stick frying pan" or "deep ceramic baking dish" while many of my product titles are much more structured. As a result, the built-in search misses a lot of relevant products. The store is still fairly new, so I'm looking for something that's easy to set up rather than a big custom search project. Has anyone found a search app or external service that noticeably improved search relevance and reduced zero-result searches?

It sounds like a metadata problem. Adding a synonym list (frying pan = skillet, baking dish = casserole dish, etc.) and populating product tags/attributes with size, material, and shape would fix a big chunk of misses even with the stock search. Do it manually and then add an app that does something similar automatically later. The apps are mostly no-code.
Yep, even Shopify provides this report natively. OP—I’m a big fan of Searchanise as a relatively lightweight and low-price solution. Where the value mostly sits is in the ability to identity zero result searches and then to address them—through the creation of synonyms, redirects, remerchandising, and so on. And no, I’m not affiliated with this app in anyway. Just a happy customer.

Most search apps log every query that return nothing. So if you pull your zero-result search logs you have a ranked list of exactly what customers are typing and failing on.
