Are there any good alternatives to Google Photos?

I don't want my photos used that way, I hate being 17 in America where everything's being undone to make America 'the land of the free'. edit: thank you guys for all the suggestions/solutions, I honestly expected to be insulted or something lol

thank you, ill check it out
I strongly suggest you stablish a backup plan. Now that you are moving away from google, you need your pictures to live somewhere in addition to your phone. I have an old phone with an sd card at home and use roundsync to copy the new pictures to it. There are commercial solutions, too.
Immich is the one i'd pick, ente is good if you want hosted
I'm gradually taking steps back to get away from these big tech companies that seem to invade our privacy time and time again
Mainly backup and editing, that's about it. I don't find the face recognition/grouping useful considering half the time it doesn't get all the faces. I just make the albums myself
I use Simple gallery https://f-droid.org/packages/org.fossify.gallery
I'm guessing it won't have face grouping right?
Can immich show local photos on the phone? I heard abt it before but i thought u should host ur photos on a pc first
Immich , ente photos .
Immich is very good. You might find r/selfhosting interesting. Learning how to do stuff like this on your own is a great path to a career.
I self host using ente
It depends on which features you're looking for. Backup? Face recognition/grouping? Memories? Editing?
I run the Immich photo management app on a computer at home. Totally free OSS. You can also pay to have it hosted for you. Works very well.... https://docs.immich.app/install/one-click/
If you don't want to self-host use Ente Photos. It's E2EE and has on device AI
My problem with Google Photos is more of a user interface issue: The UI absolutely SUCKS. I'm on a Samsung phone and I really like its Gallery app. Other than that, I use Aves for a few things.
I use Lavender Photos on Android. For "cloud", I simply sync my DCIM folder to my always-on desktop via Syncthing.
Local Android gallery Recommendation: Same developer: f-stop Ez gallery Notable mention : piktures Self hosted : immich Paid hosting : ente, 5 gb free
Im surrently just using sync-thing to do a 1 way sync from my phone to my laptop then deleting stuff on my phone when needed. might switch to immich soon
Are you looking for a service or just an app? Google photos the app is definitely not good (other than the fast editing options). Service replacement, I'd say ente.io
Aves Gallery?
Ente Photos!!!! Looks and behaves similarly to Google Photos so the learning curve is small. But, its PRIVATE & ENCRYPTED!!!!
I bought a synology NAS when Google Photos ceased to have unlimited storage. So Synology Photos for me here, it's pretty awesome
The best local gallery is Aves and it is open source.
I use Terabox. You get 1TB of cloud storage for free. Only downside is that the app has ads.
+1 for Ente Photo's. I was the biggest fan of Google photo's several years ago ( I know, I've changed since then) and moving to Ente was seamless.
