Hi, Trying to get off my last subscription, apple music. Have a music smb server setup for a while, VLC iphone app works great to play any of the songs locally or download them to iphone locally. Now want to expand it to my family, everyone lives in the same house, no remote functionality needed. Is there a way to setup everyone's iphone to accept new songs pushed by me/server and automatically download to each of the devices? Ideally it would only happen locally when they are home connected to same network as the server. If auto-download isn't possible atleast newly pushed songs show up for them to download? I just don't want to have to do it manually for every member of the fam. Checking if theres a media-server and app combo that does this before I attempt to re-invent the wheel here with shortcuts etc.

i don't think apple's music player sees smb server files, that was all the reason. Maybe my post is confusing, I was wanting to see if the "Pushing" music can be accomplished with a setup, does navindrome have that or is it just a remote server like plex?

Navidrome is a remote server just like plex. But depending on the client you use on your phone you can download the music to play locally

you should check out navidrome. together with an client-app of your choice you could stream from your media server to your phone.

You might need to explain your setup better then and where you're actually storing your music I'm speaking as someone who had around 37k mp3 files locally stored on my iPhone before switching to Navidrome. If you're using Navidrome, you're streaming your music from wherever it's stored to each individual phone that has Arpeggi installed. If you add music to wherever it's stored, Navidrome will automatically pick it up as "Recently Added" so it is, in effect (i assume), "pushed" to all of the devices. You'd no longer need a samba share, just Navidrome.

I'm assuming the iPhone stock music player doesn't do something specific you need as the reason why you choose to overcomplicate local music playback with VLC ? But anyway, look up how to set up Navidrome. I've got this set up on my NAS drive and I use the app Arpeggi on my iPhone and it works nicely. Point Navidrome to wherever your music is stored on your server and whenever you get new music, just dump it in that folder and Navidrome, and consequently, Arpeggi will pick it up automatically.

Navidrome server plus subsonic player. I currently use Nautiline. Works with CarPlay. You can have it automatically cache the library as well :)
