So I just found out my best selling product has been sold out since Saturday and my ads have been running to it this entire time lol. Noticed because I was looking at campaign numbers and one ad set had a really high CPC with barely any add to carts, went and checked the actual Shopify product page and yeah, sold out. Been like that for days apparently. Still adding up how much I burned on this, not a good number. Anyone else done this. Do you just check manually or is there something that helps catch this before it gets to this point? Feel pretty dumb but also feel like this has to happen to more people than just me.

I have set a calendar notification to check inventory for best/good selling items, for every alternate day. There are some good apps also for it, i think

Yep this is the way to go. You'll almost always have a product out of stock as your store grows and it'll get difficult to manage - instead, set up a Notify me button and let customers sign up to get notified. At the very least, you capture emails and you can feed them into your marketing platform to continue engaging them. And when you restock, they'll get notified instantly. Most apps with back in stock alerts also have Shopify Flow triggers so you can do things like send you an email when you get a signup on any product. That'd be your cue to check out inventory and figure out restocks.
Don't beat yourself up, I think this happens to more people than they'll admit. I've made it a habit to check stock before increasing budgets because nothing burns money faster than sending paid traffic to an unavailable product. If one product drives most of your revenue, it's worth having some kind of inventory alert so you're not relying on spotting it manually.
This is exactly why you want a Google Ads script running that cross-references your Merchant Center feed inventory status and pauses ad groups or campaigns when a product goes out of stock. Google also has a native "pause ads for out of stock products" setting inside Merchant Center in automated updates, worth enabling as a baseline. Manually checking is how everyone starts and how everyone gets burned at least once.
i've seen this happen a few times, usually the sudden drop in conversions is what gives it away first
set up a flow to alert you when inventory is low did you at least get leads/emails? sometimes this can make FOMO and you can get the sale still.
I’m thinking a great idea for an app that would monitor paid ads versus inventory availability. Maybe it already exists. Would anyone pay for it? I could have it done in a day.
