Mobile attribution platform like AppsFlyer that doesnt cost 200$ a month for basic attribution. Doest that exist? i will not promote

I have a mobile app that I launched last month, things are going well (~600 downloads, 22 paid subscribers) and I think I'm at the point where I want to test paid ads. I've spent maybe 100$ across Google, Meta and Apple. I want to understand where users come from, so far I have 2 data points: self-attribution during onboarding ("where did you hear about us") Manually taking the campaign reports with number of paid installs + using my overall conversion rate to paid. I pull the numbers from Amplitude, RevenueCat and each ad account and drop that into an excel file where I've recreated my funnel I've started to look into apps like AppsFlyer to set up better attribution mechanisms, but they seem overkill and expensive for smaller projects. Any recommendations from this community on how you deal with attribution?

Honestly self attribution isn’t a bad option… an interesting tip I got from a CMO a couple years back was to always have a false option, a platform you aren’t actually running essentially, so that you can keep a rough sense check on how accurate your numbers are. Also, before you get something like AppsFlyer, look into the various changes Apple has made with their iOS over the last few years as it greatly impacted ability to attribute ads
Yeah it's better than nothing, the gap I'm trying to close is if the traffic brought by paid ads is high quality and converting/using the app. Like if someone says they came from Reddit, I can't tell if it was a paid ad or just a post or someone's recommendation. But yeah Apple doesn't make it easy :( That's an interesting tip, so basically saying let's not run any ads on Facebook/Instagram and use that as a baseline?
Well yeah that's why I'm wondering what others are doing haha I've made 1K in the last month, but don't want to burn 20% of it on attribution. I'm trying to set up Singular which seems to have a good free/cheap plan
I mean you’ll need to run growth marketing, but channel level CAC data is pretty much impossible to find at this point… you’ll have to test all channels simultaneously to get a baseline CAC and then toggle each one on and off for a period to get a sense of how each individual channel impacts CAC
At your current spend, I’d avoid trying to solve user-level attribution perfectly. Run one network and one country at a time, then compare the lift in installs, activation, and paid conversion against a country you leave untouched. Keep the campaign windows clean so changes are readable. That won’t tell you which individual came from an ad, but it answers the business question you actually have: did this spend create more good users than you would have had anyway? Once spend is large enough that overlapping campaigns ruin the test, then the attribution bill may make sense.
