Did sidekick suddenly get extremely dumb?

We have loved using sidekick throughout the day to run reports and aggregate data. I usually ask it for abandoned checkout info a few times a week to see what people are leaving behind and when. Today I asked for an abandoned checkout report for the last 4 hours (a very common request that I’ve asked it for at least 100 times) and the answer was essentially “I’m sorry, I don’t have access to that info”. I asked what changed with its abilities, and it said it doesn’t know why that feature was removed, but to check with Support or run the report manually. I asked it to do a few other very basic things it used to have no issues with (abandoned carts within a certain time period, etc) and it could no longer do any of them. For every request it said something like “I’m sorry a feature you used to use is no longer available, but you can try reaching out to support or run the report manually” Has anyone else had this problem? Getting real-time info from sidekick was such a major plus for Shopify, and I’m so frustrated at this huge downgrade. 😩

One of the tasks I had asked it to do was a simple font change on my website. The font is ok, until you see the numbers. I don't like the way the numbers look, where one number is higher or lower than another number. Visually, its harder to read and unattractive. I asked Sidekick if we could change it, they said no problem. I picked a new font and sidekick said, voila, your new font is installed! I kept looking and didn't see the change. I deleted cache and did everything sidekick suggested, but to no avail. I couldn't see the changed font. Turns out, the font was never changed and sidekick eventually (after 24 hours) admitted that I would probably need a hard code code change due to my theme. It was SO much wasted time.
It's possible they have quota controls on the backend—if usage gets too high, it might get downgraded to a secondary model, and those models aren't as good at tool use. After all, the cost of large language models is still too high compared to other services.
This is what I was thinking. I’m hoping they just throttled the capability because usage gets too high, but it’s possible they didn’t anticipate the actual cost and removed those features permanently.
Sidekick could do multiple reports, cross referencing different metrics, in a fraction of the time it would take me to manually do one.
cool. I should try that. or maybe just export it and dump the csv into chatgpt. should be good insight.
Yes, I think these costs will ultimately be passed on to consumers. First, they get you accustomed to using these tools, and then they introduce usage limits, charges, or restrict features to premium plans. Many tools and companies follow this pattern.
Funny. I came to the Shopify thread to see if anyone else had mentioned anything about Sidekick and this was the first post I saw. I've gotten so much bad information from Sidekick I've decided to stop using it. I just don't trust it anymore. It simply makes too many mistakes.
Yes. I thought the same this week. Plus User here
Same. It had been fantastic help, but now it makes so many mistakes or missing parts of runs that it’s always been able to do in the past. I asked it to double check its scripts and it returned them complete, no rules missing, but admitted it didn’t know why previously working tasks were now unusable. Such a shame.
shitty. but what is the difference info wise of just clicking the abandoned cart section of the admin?
I thought it was just me. A couple of prompts that worked for months suddenly started getting the "I don't have access" response too. Makes me wonder if something changed on the backend rather than our stores, because it feels way too consistent. Hopefully it's temporary because those quick reports were honestly one of the most useful parts.
They will slowly take away actions until it gets so frustrating! Then they will put it behind a pay wall to regain access to those actions..
Probably something broken in the back end. Or perhaps it's running out of resources so it lies to reduce overhead. I've had chatgpt do similar stuff.
Just connect Shopify MCP to Claude. Sidekick doesn’t come close to it
I think could be using sidekick the wrong way, add sidekick skills (use the app for skills other stores are using) Sidekick Skills & Magic Prompt : http://apps.shopify.com/ai-sidekick-magic-skills I'd couple it with codex on the workflow and viola!
Its wildy frustrating. Sidekick constantly gives me incorrect advice on how to troubleshoot issues. It will tell me a field is editable which its not. I point that out. All it does is say "Sorry, you're right, I made a mistake". THIS IS SHOPIFY'S CUSTOMER SERVICE?
It's gotten way dumber recently. "You're right! You do have more than 3 orders today!"
