Every once in a while I have to take it offline for general maintenance and it’s becoming a hassle to individually text everyone about the status. Any self hosted solutions for mass communication? If it includes something that can be used as a newsletter that would be even better honestly. A lot of the users like to know what was added.

I really want this to be an automated snail mail service, that way they get their notification in 2-5 business days.
Another solution using uptime kuma: securely expose a dedicated status page for just the shared, accessible services using a cloudflare tunnel. And if the status page is down, they know shit is proper-fucked. https://github.com/louislam/uptime-kuma/wiki/Reverse-Proxy-with-Cloudflare-Tunnel
Yeah, I just sucked it up and used Discord with webhooks for when the server is getting updated and new stuff is available. Figure I’m on Discord enough…

no kidding the 10dlc bit was a bitch. But, i got some really great help with the guys at surge.app they helped guide me (a non voip guy) though the process.
I have had good service using brevo.com free smtp relay tier.
Uhm what about a simple mail you send to them with the maintenance window and an feature/content list
I use to have a dashboard/homepage that has alerts/maintenance notices on it. Though I also have enough hardware redundancy now that I often don't have anything go offline that users can notice.
I was using SMTP until Google and MS stopped it on the free email accounts. So tried self hosting email behind my domain... nightmare to get working and the risks of being hacked and used for spam are huge so bailed on it completely. Did think about getting my users on my discord server, but most aren't techie enough...
So a bit complicated of a solution but uptime Kuma allows you to set maintenance schedules/announcements that you can have post to discord or email out.

For a newsletter feel, Listmonk is the go to self hosted option. Single binary, Postgres backend, actual campaigns and subscriber lists instead of a group text. For quick status pings, Uptime Kuma has a built in status page and can push notifications through Discord webhooks or ntfy. People check the page or get a push, no manual texting. If the changelog matters more than real time status, a simple markdown changelog on Wiki.js or a private GitHub repo works well too. Drop the link in the group chat when there's something new.
Just make a telegram group. Here you can send alerts and also have notifications if a new movie/show is added or deleted through seerr or radarr

use a 3rd party, signal, telegram, WhatsApp... But then you got to get everyone using that app. What I can tell you from my direct experience, SMS and text messaging is a pain to automate. and will cost some (small) $$. Mind you its the red-tape that you will ahve to jump though to be able to send SMS messages, and also if you want to receive them. I got automated SMS working on my project, and its great, but there is a cost to it. How about just a SMTP message.
Google said listmonk is prob what you want for a self hosted email distribution.
