For my small business, I would like to have a second phone number that I can put on my packaging so that people can text me feedback. I live in a small community, so it’s not like a lot of people will be texting me, but I still don’t want to give out my phone…

I live in a small community, so it’s not like a lot of people will be texting me, but I still don’t want to give out my phone number. Is there an app or service that I can purchase where basically I would put this phone number on the package, and people will text me…. And it will go to an app (or going to my phone number is fine, I guess). This is for actual back-and-forth conversations. It will not be AI. And it won’t be used for any sales or marketing. This will be just for a short period of time while I’m testing out a product. Is there an app or service out there? That’s like that?

Google Voice is the easiest fit here, free, gets you a real second number, and texts come through an app so your personal number stays private. Perfect for a short-term test like this.
A separate business number with texting is probably the cleanest fit here. I’d make portability and a shared inbox the two non-negotiables, so the number is still yours if you switch apps later
VoIP.ms phone numbers support text messaging, although I’ve only used it to forward messages to my email. You can run an app on your phone to send and receive the messages.
As others have said, Google Voice is fine if you just want SMS inbox where people can send messages for you to read that isn't your actual number. Quo is a little pricier but also could work, but might also be overkill for what you're looking for. There's also a couple services where you can get a temporary number for people to text that forwards to your actual number. Check out Burner or TextNow. Verizon will let you add another line to your plan for like $20/month extra depending on your plan. You can have two phone numbers on the same phone.

Google Voice, free, gives you a second number that texts come into as an app basically. Works fine for something small scale like this
Quo makes it easy to text back and forth through an app on your phone. You might find as business grows that you have more use for this second phone number, so paying for Quo might be worth it. You can call out and receive calls through the Quo app as well.
Just keep in mind that if you offer it, you will need to monitor it very closely and respond promptly. Someone could send customer service issues to it as well expecting a timely resolution - you forgot the mustard, I did not get my entire order, I got the wrong order, etc.
