I've realized You-Tube is my biggest distraction while studying. The problem is that I don't watch Shorts anymore. I end up watching long-form videos, and once I open You-Tube for "just one video," it turns into hours of wasted time. I've tried browser extension like BlockSite, but when the urge hits, I just disable or uninstall them. They only work until I lose self-control. My router can block you-tube, but that blocks it for everyone in my house, and I only want it blocked on my laptop. I want something that's genuinely hard to bypass. Preferably something that actually helps me study for long hours

been there done that, if then again. to enable it you just need to open it in notepad and remove YouTube .com and save it. it even useless than block site extension.

Just turn off the feed

Im not even signed in

I kept the feed off for a month or so, and I never felt addicted after that. I still look up videos, but I don’t feel addicted. Best of both worlds. If you haven’t turned off the feed, you’ll get addicted the moment you sign in.

Tried LeechBlock extension for Chrome? Rules based blocking & can override if needed. Edit: Make sure the extension is NOT visble on your browser's toolbar.

can edit hosts file to block youtube, try googling about it

Maybe try this extension. It has a grayscale mode so it makes it boring or makes you aware when you fall into the trap of watching too much youtube.

Cold Turkey Blocker is probably the specific tool that matches what you're describing. It's a Windows/Mac app, not a browser extension, so it survives the "just disable the extension" failure mode you ran into with BlockSite. It has a "frozen turkey" lock mode: you set a block for however long, and there's no way to end it early, not through the app, not by uninstalling, not by resetting your clock. It's laptop-only by design (nothing touches your router or other devices), and you can scope it to just YouTube specifically rather than the whole internet if you want. Free tier covers basic blocking, the locked/scheduled stuff is part of the paid version, but that's exactly the "genuinely hard to bypass" piece you're asking for. The rules-based extensions with an override button (like the ones you and others mentioned) will always lose eventually, since the override is right there the moment you actually want to use it.
