Best credit card for family 5 with lounge access
Im looking for a credit card with lounge access for a family of 5. Applied for Bofa premier elite and got denied, mainly no relationship. Is US bank Altitude the next best option? Dont want to spend a fortune on annual fee. Thanks

Thank you!! Question, this is a call in to upgrade versus a new application? I do have a marriot bonvoy thats over a year old and above 10k limit
Oh that’s perfect. Then yeah you’d want to call in to upgrade to the Ritz-Carlton. It’s an excellent card overall - identical protections on purchases and travel to the Sapphire Reserve for half the annual fee and none of the coupon book nonsense, and it routes customer support to the JPMorgan line (usually reserve for those with substantial assets with JPMorgan investments) rather than the normal Chase one
Thank you fir this details
Sapphire reserve will be more than that, the annual fee is $795 + $195 AU
Oops, good catch!
$56? I thought it was $28?
Updated: I was able to convert to the Ritz Carlyon card. Thanks youall for the information. The Ritz card is perfect for my Family with the least amount of impact of the Wallet
The only downside is at times (not always); the RC card can take a back seat. Was in BOS during peak time on a random Tuesday off peak and they were not accepting RC cards either. They said exclusively Sapphire Reserve cards and a 15 minute wait.
Wow, that’s junk. Good to know as I have the Ritz.
Ritz-Carlton is theoretically ideal here. Issue is it takes quite a while to obtain. You need to have held a lower level Chase Marriott credit card for at least 1 year and with a $10k minimum credit limit to be eligible to upgrade to the Ritz. $450 annual fee, 2 free guests, no authorized user fee, AUs gets their own Priority Pass. So one parent gets the card, the other gets added as an AU, one brings two kids in as two guests and the other brings the third in as a guest. Also the $450 AF is easy to compensate with a $300 annual airline incidental credit and a free Marriott hotel night each year.
Product change is either a call or secure message through Chase. Your Marriott Bonvoy card would have to be a Chase version and not Amex as the Ritz Carlton card is issued by Chase.
Thank you for this detailed writeup!
Altitude connect will cover PP dining, so you while you can't take everybody inside a lounge you could could get a $28 meal credit for each swipe. that won't go very far in an airport I'm afraid. Unless you're doing frequent long layovers with the whole family it's probably best to get the @#$%! out of the airport and their captive audience pricing.
Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite, $595: Allows the primary cardholder to bring in their spouse (or domestic partner) plus all children under 18 for free. Chase Sapphire Reserve, $990 ($795+$195): Primary cardholder allows 2 complimentary guests and the authorized user can also bring in 2 more. Chase Ritz-Carlton ($450): Can't be applied for directly, you'd have to get a different Chase Marriott card then product change after a year. Additional users are free and each card holder gets complimentary Priority Pass.
Yea Ritz is a great card. I’m working towards getting it now, but honestly I think I’ll keep the bonvoy brilliant for the platinum elite status. The 4pm guaranteed checkout is great with the family for theme park days, before cruises, or just regular stays. 85k FNC, $300 dining credit, PE Status and the Amex protections are worth it to me, since I don’t care for the platinum cards benefits with being able to get $120 disney credit from the Disney inspire card. Once I hit the Schwab appreciation bonus of $200 I think I’d get the Schwab plat since it’d be much easier for me to justify. But the lululemon, airline upgrades aren’t something I’d naturally use, but I have felt like the hotel credit could be used somewhat easily so idk for sure.
I have the Citi Exec World Elite and can confirm that getting your family into AA lounges is clutch. AND every person on your itinerary gets their first checked bag free….very strong travel card IMO.
BofA PRE is not 4 swipes, it's 4 independent memberships. Each member can theoretically bring unlimited guests to lounges, although the lounge can set a limit in practice. It also has access to PP restaurants. For restaurants, each of the 4 members can bring one guest.
Ritz Carlton card, make wife AU.
Family of 4 and we have Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite and Ritz-Carlton (all family members are AU for free) so family can get into lounges. Annual fees are high, but worth it if you travel enough, especially on AA. We had the Venture X, but cancelled and pivoted to EWE and RC once they took away family longe access. One thing I did not see mentioned is that Ritz-Carlton gets you into Chase Sapphire Lounges so no need to also get the Chase Sapphire Reserve, if one of the main reasons to get the CSR would be for lounge access.
Assuming at least three of the five family members are kids, I highly recommend the Amtrak Guest Rewards Preferred Mastercard. I hear the lounges are sublime.
Lounge access also depends on where you live. Chase Sapphire Reserve allows you to bring in 2 guests to their lounges. Kids under 2 are free. Additional guests after the two (who are older than two) are $27 each...not bad. Their lounges rock, but are pretty sparse. I'd say Chase Sapphire Reserve...but only if you live near an airport with a Chase lounge.
Bilt palladium + companion for your wife means 2+ 4 guests free per priority pass visit with ability to purchase additional passes with bilt cash
Altitude connect has 4 swipes so the idea is folly same with BOA PE. Since they reworked VX, I think your only options are United infinite or AA world elite. Yes, they have fat annual fees, but lounge access is not free. The other strategy is to open multiple altitude connects to get enough swipes, see if you can PC other US bank cards, but it'll be a bit of a painful endeavor. There also definetly lounges cards that allow two guests, but 4 you really can only do with the airline cards.
