I don't really think that car is a good deal though, the Civic is a way better value, you can get a Civic Touring Hybrid with a ton of options for $33k.

Depends on specific model and model year, like any other car manufacturer. Just because it's a Toyota or Honda badge does not mean that all the cars they make are reliable. People worship these brands until a big issue hits then they swear them off afterwards. Came to say this. Drives well, great MPG, small enough to park easily.
Mazda 3 is a fine car and a fine value, but better avoid the hatchback version if looking for parking ease.
Civic Hybrid is excellent. Great fuel economy, good amount of space, solid build quality and reliability, for a commuter that car is among the best of the best right now
You can get an accord hybrid for around $33k OTD as well.
Mazda 3 Toyota Corolla Hacthback (much short in length than the sedan, better for street parking) If you do a lot of city driving / low speed urban driving hybrids are much better. Toyota Prius, Honda Civic Hatchback, Kia Niro

I'm assuming the street parking eliminates an EV. I would go with any hybrid from Toyota. They are putting their synergy drive system in basically every car now. The Corolla Hybrid is the missionary position of cars, but just like missionary, it always gets ya there.

Love my 25 Sonata SEL-C. lots of features/$ and simple drivetrain for reliability. Elantra has 8 trims, plenty to choose from there, too.
If not having highway lane centering isn’t a huge deal to you, I’d go with a 2026 Mazda3 carbon edition or premium. Built in Japan (double check vin starts with J), no more cylinder deactivation in 2026, tried and true engine and trans.
I’d get a Toyota or Honda. Very reliable. Look at the RAV4 or CRV
