I am in a little dilemma here. I have Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Sapphire Preferred, and Navy Federal Flagship. My plan is to downgrade my Chase Freedom Unlimited to the Chase Freedom Flex Visa. But, people also telling me to keep the Chase Freedom Unlimited and accumulate your points together. Part of me wants the best of both worlds and the other part of me wants just point accumulation. If I do product change my Chase Freedom Unlimited I will use my Chase Sapphire Preferred for gas, streaming, dining, and travel. I will use my Navy Federal Flagship as my 2% catch all card and free yearly Amazon subscription. Tell me what’s your thoughts on this please and thank you!!!

Yes that’s my plan I’m looking to product change in January 2027

This really depends on your spending habits and how much you travel. For most households, I think the best answer is keeping a core cash back setup for day-to-day spending, and SUB chasing whenever you have big expenses coming up or trips planned. This is what we do and it’s worked well so far, no commitment or pressure to find value from annual fee cards and flexibility when not working towards hitting SUBs

So, basically the setup I’m looking to do?

I’m not closing it I’m product changing

I know that’s why it says visa next to freedom flex

I do! My Navy Federal Flagship is 2% back on all spend 3X on all travel. I have Navy Federal More Rewards for groceries including Walmart and Target. Because of that I will be product changing my Chase Freedom Unlimited to the OG Freedom Flex (Visa Version). Using my Chase Sapphire Preferred for dining, gas, streaming services, and travel. This will help me build enough points for a big trip because I will let the points accumulate for a bit.

In your use case the only thing the CFU is good for would be 3% back at drugstores (CVS, Walgreens etc). If I had this setup I’d cancel the Freedom or try and PC to CFF.

Quite literally 0 reason to close the freedom

I am surprised it doesn’t earn 2x. There are lots of 2% cards out there.

I use both. Amex Gold I stock up for delta out of our delta hub. Paired with Delta card for companion ticket and 15% off miles. RH Gold is cashed out for cashback at 3% for catch all. CFF is used for 5% back.

you won't be able to downgrade to flex; it will be the visa version of the freedom.

The CFU should really be a flat 2% or 2X card. Since it's not, it's a waste of space. You probably can't PC to the Freedom Flex MasterCard, but you should be able to PC to the OG Freedom Visa. If you don't have a card that earns 2% or 2X you should get that too.

I travel at least 3-5 times a year. Most of it is through rental and hotels. However, I do have a big trip international trip planned next year.
