I had a small baking business that I ran out of my home several years ago and was fairly successful. Not enough to make a living off it 24/7, but enough to get my name out there and have customers still calling me to this day wanting me to make things for events, birthdays, etc. I had to unfortunately shut my business down because of issues with my ex-partner at the time (we were never married), financial issues because of him not able to keep a job due to job-hopping, and all the income having to be put on me, making me the sole breadwinner while taking care of him and our child. Long story short, I had to close my business, but I’ve always wanted to get it started back up again. I don’t nearly have the amount of supplies I had when I had my business going, but I still have my Kitchenaid mixer, mixing bowls, cupcake pans, a few sheet pans, and some round cake pans. I’ve just started working at Ingles and I want to start my baking business up small time to earn some extra money on the side. I have a name in mind, a menu I wish to provide to clients, I just need help when it comes to ideas of building my business, marketing to clients, how to make logos/menus, as well as saving back money for ingredients and supplies Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated. I’m located in Williamston, South Carolina if that helps.

Thank you so much for the advice! I don’t know anyone who makes logos, but I’m sure I can look around! I’ll have to give adobe express a try because I’ve been using canva but don’t want to use AI in any way shape or form. And thank you!! It’s something I’m really passionate about, so I definitely want to get into back into it! And that’s awesome to hear you have a cafe!!
I would like to do weekly words, but I don’t really want to invest in AI as it’s harmful to the environment and hurts a lot of small businesses. So thank you, but I would prefer to stay away from AI.
That is very true!! I’ll keep that in mind and give them a call before I go posting on social media!
Ohhh I’ll definitely do that! I have an idea of what I want to make so I’ll definitely make a list of options and think about them!
adobe express is really easy to use and it’s better than canva imo. they have a lot of templates for menus and you can create a logo with it. do you know anyone who makes logos? also for marketing - facebook groups. find your neighborhood groups, surrounding areas, moms groups, small business groups. instagram and tiktok. nextdoor app. the best thing you can do is build a “bank” of content. take lots of pictures, make videos. if you can do so every time you make something that’s great. keep them on hand when you don’t know what to post. follow instagram trends, when you see a lot of people making a certain type of video, do that too. instagram will automatically put that post higher in the algorithm, tiktok too. marketing is a LOT of work but it makes it easy when you have a lot of content. and i just post the same thing on every social media forum lol. you can also go to local coffee shops and stores and see if you can put your baked goods in there. AND you can do events. i’m not sure if that’s something you were doing before, but it’s a great way to get your name out there. i had a home bakery for a few years and turned it into a cafe :) if you want any other advice i’m happy to talk to you about it!! i’m glad you’re getting back into it and i wish you loads of success!
You already have something most people restarting don't, old customers still calling you years later. Reach out to them directly before doing any broad social push, they're a warmer reopening than any Facebook group post will be.
Think about serving a "niche." Make a list of options and then think about them in a day or two. Marketing and sales is so much easier if you fully understand and empathize with YOUR ideal customers.
Most of this you can build with Ai today. There are a lot of strategies that you may want to consider, and all the above are great ideas too. Considering that you were successful before, you have a track record, but you have limited time, think about starting with wholesale accounts. Money is less, but weekly orders can be a foundation for growth. Just a thought. MayneStreet.com
