Hey everyone, This is going to be my first ever custom PC build and also my first time physically assembling a PC. Before I spend this much money, I'd really appreciate a sanity check from people with more PC-building experience. Main goal: 4K gaming at Ultra settings with high FPS, while also building something premium-looking and reasonably future-proof. I'm willing to spend extra on aesthetics/quality, but I don't want to waste hundreds of dollars on something that provides basically no benefit. Current build: PCPartPicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BhDKh9 • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D • Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB (2024) • Motherboard: MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi • RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32GB (2x16) DDR5-6000 CL30 • Storage: 2x Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVMe (4TB total) • GPU: MSI RTX 5080 SUPRIM SOC 16GB • Case: Lian Li O11 Vision (regular, not Compact) • PSU: ASUS ROG Strix 1000W 80+ Platinum • OS: Windows 11 Home • Monitor: MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED – 32", 4K, 240Hz Fan / cooling setup: I plan to replace the three stock NZXT radiator fans with Lian Li SL-Infinity fans so all visible fans match. • Side: Kraken Elite 360 radiator + 3x SL-Infinity Reverse Blade, intake • Bottom: 3x SL-Infinity Reverse Blade, intake • Rear: 2x standard SL-Infinity, exhaust • Total: 8 SL-Infinity fans (6 reverse intake + 2 standard exhaust) I also want to mount the RTX 5080 vertically using a compatible Lian Li vertical GPU bracket/PCIe 5.0 riser. A few specific things I'd like checked: Is everything physically/electrically compatible? Is the 6-intake / 2-exhaust airflow setup appropriate for the O11 Vision? Any issue replacing the Kraken's stock fans with SL-Infinity Reverse fans on the radiator? Any clearance/temperature concerns with vertically mounting the very large MSI 5080 SUPRIM SOC? Is the 1000W PSU appropriate? Is 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 the right choice for a high-end gaming build, or is there any real reason to go 64GB? Are there any parts here that I'm massively overpaying for without getting a meaningful benefit? Is there anything I'm missing that I'll need when I actually assemble it? The PCPartPicker total is currently around $5,723 including the ~$750 monitor. Current component prices are unusually high in some categories, especially RAM/SSDs, so I'm also interested in alternatives if I'm paying way too much for a particular component. I'm not trying to make this the absolute cheapest RTX 5080 build — aesthetics, low noise, build quality, and the O11 Vision showcase look matter to me — but I also don't want to spend money purely for a brand name. im seeing the pny 5080 going for 1250, is there any reason your going with a suprim? and people don't usually pay 120 for a windows u can buy the key for a few tens of bucks ur also kinda overpaying for your ram, some cl30 kits go around for 400 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xtpM3R
Thanks, that's exactly the kind of stuff I wanted someone to point out. Tbh I am not familiar with pc components, and I chose Suprim because I have limited knowledge on alternatives plus good looking. I found the PNY 5080 ARGB OC for around $1,250–1,300, so I'm probably switching to that instead of paying ~$500 extra for the Suprim. That's a pretty good call. I'll also remove the full retail Windows license and look into cheaper legitimate options. For the RAM, do you have a specific 32GB 6000 CL30 EXPO kit you'd recommend around $400? I went with the Trident Z5 Neo mostly because I wanted RGB, but I'm definitely not attached to it if I'm paying ~$200 just for aesthetics.
there are many cl30 kits for around 400, im using the adata lancer blade and it works fine on my am5 build. its your decision and there is no virtual difference
I feel bad for you, I was planning to ask a friend or employee working at bestbuy etc. who can assemble with me or, worst case scenario, I'll be looking over youtube since I don't want to waste $$$ with one wrong click.
Dude's willing to spend almost $6k on a build and you're worried about a $20-$50 difference in PSU price? I'd say go 1000w or 12000w just for shits.

yeah, but the power degrades overtime and 1000 might give you future upgrade paths

Here are some big changes just to show where you could save. I got it down to 4k with the monitor and without windows (as others pointed out, can be found for less) without sacrificing what you wanted before. RGB on the RAM is gone, but you could go temgroup RAM for 70 more that has it. OFC it does not have that clean Lian LI fan look, which cost you about 400 more though, but it is just a showcase of the cheaper options with the same functionality. I don't think you need a 1000w psu, honestly 850 would be fine
If you want to save some money buy the ram used on eBay and the SSD used on eBay. That'll save about $200-350 But also if you are just going all out then buying new is more fun
I have nearly the same build as you. There’s no issues replacing the Kraken fans with SL-INF fans, but i would get the black kraken elite instead of the RGB as it is cheaper and you will be replacing the fans anyway. Make sure you have enough USB headers, the fans need one, the Kraken needs one, strimers will need one if you incorporate them, front panel needs one, etc. You can buy an internal USB hub if you run out. 1000W PSU is great. 32GB RAM is perfect, I have 64 but it is bragging rights only, I have never come close to using it all. Finally, I wanted to vertically mount my GPU but found it blocked the view of the beautiful Kraken AIO screen that I paid so much for. Ended up switching to horizontal mount.
If I was spending 6k I would be getting a 5090...
Putting one together is easy as long as you have a little aptitude. My first time upgrading my laptop...may it RIP...I manhandled it and broke stuff. Just don't do that
Samsung SSDs are way overpriced imo. I have a couple of cheap teamtech SSDs that have worked flawlessly for thousands of hours
You are better on a 4 TB PCIE 5.0x4 SSDs then spending on a 2x2TB Samsung 990s. The motherboard can support PCIE 5.0 SSDs while PCIE 4 SSDs are not going to be helpful. Ram 2x32 GB would helpful when 32 GB becomes a limiting factor. Modded games can be ram intensive. Some other ideas are the Bequiet dark power 14s for their 850w editions can be cheaper then Asus’s offering. As for your 360mm radiator; exhaust is going to be a better deal since you want that heat dumped out of your case then residing inside. That would foul up the heat removal. Vertical cable mods try it first without the cable then decide. Other ideas are to see if a Microcenter is close by and going by their combo packages. A couple nitpicks - since you are spending that much, is this just for gaming or productivity or both ? You could do a 9850x3D that’s the 5% faster model for pure gaming. Or go up to a 9950x3D since that’s the mix of both or go spend roughly 1K on a 9950x3D2 for the ultimate AM5 cpu.
