That insurance gap makes the Civic a tougher sell. The Jetta's decent for the price, especially if you're already feeling the interior, but the long-term reliability is a bit of a question mark compared to the Honda. If you stay on top of maintenance with the VW, it can hold up, but parts and labor will cost you more when stuff does break. I'd skip the Sentra entirely unless the budget is the absolute deciding factor.
i did find a quote with a different insurance company and it was about $40/month more but have yet to contact them and see what exactly that plan includes. But still, $800/year less plus saving the $8k on the purchase price is pretty enticing. i found the interior nicer on the jetta than the civic sport. at least between the 2 cars i looked at. They have a promotion on 0% apr and $500 off right now and not sure if that is a good deal
yes but i would saving a lot of money on insurance plus around $8k off the purchase price. vw has a promotion with 0% apr and $500 off if that means anything
i've been told to be cautious with those cvts in the civic as well
The CVTs in the Civic are solid. Honda manufactures their own in-house, unless Nissan who use Jatco transmissions, and they hold up well.
Then get the VW. It’s going to be fine.
I think buying a car with a timing belt in 2026 is insane. I don't support cost cutting that's clearly transferring the manufacturing costs to the consumers.
Yes the price is about $31k CAD brand new with 0% apr and $500 back so its enticing. I felt like it had nicer interior compared to the civic. Also, $8k less and $40/month cheaper for insurance compared to the civic The monterey blue is quite nice with the black rims

Yes the Jetta is superior and the Civic is wildly superior. Still, the Sentra is a decent car that's why I said offer them the number you are willing to pay. Nissan is hungry this might work. I don't know much about VW but it won't work with Honda.
the $8k plus the $40-50/month plus the interest on the 3.39% loan from honda would put me at around $10k. That's a big head start for any maintenance. I also found the interior nicer on the vw but that is subjective
For long-term ownership: Civic > Jetta > Sentra
The 1.5Ts are great engines. Just get the belt replaced when it’s due. Not that big of a deal.
Neither. Civic is an insurance bomb , Jetta has a timing belt and obviously Sentra has a CVT manufactured by a historically unreliable manufacturer. Mazda 3
The MK7 Jetta is a very solid and reliable car, just keep up on maintenance. It’ll probably cost a bit more than a Civic long term but I’d still recommend it.
Don’t buy the Nissan. As someone who didn’t shop VW but ended up in a Jetta a year ago. Someone will have to pry this thing from my cold dead hands. Nothing but oil changes and a comfy ride. I was OTD with 9.5% tax and extended warranty on the infotainment & dash cluster at $22k. No other new car could even touch that price.
Jetta. Just do the maintenance, and the transmission fluid. The timing belt really isn't an issue, some people hate them but its not 2006 anymore
Think of a number that would make it make sense to buy the Sentra. It could be 30% off MSRP. Walk into the dealership and offer that number. They actually might sell you the car for that. Try that at a Honda dealership and they will slap you right in the mouth.
You’ve asked this a couple of times already, I’d go with the Jetta.
Safety hasn’t been brought up yet, but for what it’s worth the Jetta saved our ass. Hit a pregnant deer going 70 in a Jetta and while the car was totaled, we walked away unscathed. Not a scratch.
Jetta all day! I’ve had amazing luck with VW and audi. My last Jetta I sold around 240k miles still running

Civic sport for long term reliability honestly, VW electronics and DSG issues are the recurring complain in those mixed reviews you saw. the insurance gap is real but 8k upfront plus lower long term repair costs on the Honda probably evens out over a decade of ownership
