I am really not a car person, and I’d appreciate some insight and help. I have a 2012 manual ford focus, and i was driving on a hot day with the ac on. When we finally got to our destination, one of my friends noticed steam/ smoke coming from the hood, and it looked to be from the coolant tank area, which was visibly low under the level. So today we got the coolant and filled it, and when starting the car, it squealed, it sounded like a belt, and then after 10 seconds the engine shut off. I googled it and it said it might be the water pump or pulley that seized? And I’m wondering if I should get the car towed or try starting it again? I know its hard to know too without pictures but another factor is that today its raining when we filled the coolant. Any insight is helpful thanks!

I appreciate u taking the time to respond to me. I know that we didnt spill the coolant on the belt, we had a funnel. And when I was driving the car, my sensor for how hot the car is wasnt indicating it was hot, just neutral. Unless the sensor is messed up. Gonna inspect the belt and stuff just now

I’d avoid driving until you get it figured out. Could be something serious, could be something simple but best to avoid the risk. Those pulleys definitely aren’t supposed to be wobbly

Did you spill coolant on the belt? Can you inspect the belt to see if it’s damaged? If you think you can take the belt off you can manually try to turn the pulley that attaches to the water pump or a/c compressor to see if it’s seized. If you were driving the car while it was overheating you could have caused a number of different issues.
