My girlfriend mentioned the other night that she wished she'd had a robe she could change into between showering and going to bed if she needed to do something around the house or outside and I'd like to get her one. I was wondering if people had any recommendations? She tends to like simple designs but values good quality textiles. Edit: Here are my conclusions: I narrowed things down to LAKE, Parachute, Quince, and L.L. Bean. The LAKE robe seems to be of the highest quality, it's the only one that uses pima cotton, it is probably the best BIFL option, but I don't think my girlfriend would like any of the colors. Quince and Parachute both offer a long staple cotton in many colors, the robes seem very similar, but quince has large front pockets which are useful and it's cheaper by about $60. L.L. Bean has the least information about their cotton saying only that it's "high quality" but the colors are good and are classic and the monogramming is cheap. I am deciding between the Quince and Parachute options.

I got my ex one of those and she still uses it 5 years later, we broke up but the robe survived haha. The monogram is a nice touch makes it feel more personal than just grabbing something off the rack Just make sure you get the right size, my first attempt was too big and she looked like she was wearing a tent. The cotton ones hold up way better than the fleece stuff that pills after like 3 washes
I have one of their blankets and it's pretty scratchy are the robes also wool and if so how do they feel? Do you want a layer between it and your skin?
I think first you want to know if she wants terry (towel like fabric), fluffy fleece like, or thin (I have a silk one but they come in all fabrics) Then long or short. I bought a 100% silk short one I love but most of my friends prefer fluffy long ones.

My mother bought me my LL bean monogrammed robe when I went to college. In 1988. I used it for almost 25 years before I really had to buy a new one.
I think where I'm leaning is the L.L. Bean, Bean of Freeport Natural color. My thought process is this: she doesn't seem to want a bath robe so I don't want to do terry cloth, and she hates getting things dry cleaned so silk is out just because I think she'd like something she can just throw in the washer. We live in Georgia but she runs cold. I don't think I would pick this color for myself, but her wardrobe is mostly neutral tone beige, brown, and white linen, she just knitted a sweater in brown and beige and I think she just likes natural neutral tones and would feel calm / cozy in them. That said, I'm gonna spend some time tonight looking at some of these other brands people are recommending.
Who makes the seersucker robe, we live somewhere hot but she's not really looking for a bath robe.
She doesn't want a bath robe so I think terry is out, something in between a robe and nightgown really, but cozy. I think silk is out because she wouldn't want to dry clean it, I'm seeing some robes marketed as machine washable but I don't know how well they'd hold up.
Garnet Hill has cotton robes (in their “Asian Wrap” collection) that are absolutely machine washable and super wearable. I have a knee-length one and am thinking of grabbing a few more because I like it so much!
Pendleton Woolen Mills 1000%. I have owned one for 20+ years. They aren’t cheap but they do go on sale a couple times a year on their website. You can also occasionally find them nwt on eBay for a really good deal. They are pretty heavyweight though. I also have one of their hooded towels and it’s just as awesome but with slightly different functionality.
I love the LL Bean flannel nightshirts instead of a robe. So cosy, but not too warm, and no ties that fall open. I wear mine all day if I'm staying in.

Find one in a natural fabric. But silk is hard to take care of so avoid that. Robes come in long and short so decide which one that she would like. Get a robe with pockets- flat horizontal opening pockets not the slanted ones. Robes are also divided into Cold climate and warm climate. Where do you live? And is she usually hot or cold? I have a light weight cotton fir the summer and a thick long fuzzy one for the winter. Next is the color. Pick a color that compliments her skin and hair. And then tell her that you think that color looks good on her. My husband bought me a berry colored robe once and it was so sweet. Make sure the robe is a little sexy. Dont buy an old lady zip up or footie robe. Yuck, it sends a bad message. If you need help with the color, tell me her coloring and I can give you some color options.
Got my LLB flannel robe 2 years ago, and it's perfect. I've had robes that just didn't work - a prior flannel one was a gift and the sleeves were very wide, they caught on doorknobs (we have levers not knobs) and cabinet pulls, they were hard to roll up if I was doing dishes or cooking. I had an LLB fleece robe that was so bulky that it was uncomfortable to sit around in, too thick under the arms, I couldn't knit in front of the TV. I bought an XL in the flannel robe, I am usually a size 12 (5'6", 150#, 69F), because I like to sit cross legged on the floor with grandkids, and I like comfort, but I admit it won't win any fashion contests. I probably could have bought a L but wasn't sure if it would shrink in the wash/hot dry (don't think it did). The other robe I like is the cotton terrycloth from The Company Store. My sister has one, so I've worn it while visiting, and loved that one too. It's more feminine than the LLB plaid, and looks really nice with an initial on the collar.
Yes, this is important! I have two: a heavy one for winter and light, 100% cotton one for summer. I'd personally dislike silk -- not a critique! Just reinforcing your point that her preferences are what matter.
L L bean! You can get it monogrammed. I believe it’s also wirecutter recommended pick. I got my wife one and she loves it
I have one from parachute that I love! Feels very luxurious and is the right amount of “towel like” while still feeling cozier and cuter than a towel.

I purchased the best bath robe from a hotel we had stayed at. It is not only comfortable but also very soft with nice pockets. If you ever stay at a hotel and try the robes, some of the hotels sell the bath robes. Not all are good. The one we bought from is Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos.

I love mine from Lake Pajamas. It’s super comfy, has pockets, and the belt is sewn on so I never lose it.
I have 2 robes. The one I put on right after showering is full length 100% cotton terry. I put that on to help me dry off while I’m drying my hair and brushing my teeth. But by then the robe is damp. If it’s summer and I’m going to stay up and read or watch TV, I slip into a 100% cotton seersucker robe with 3/4 length sleeves that hits just below my knees. If it’s winter and I plan to stay up, I put on a full length Eddie Bauer cotton robe that’s filled with down. Soft, cozy, but very light. All of these robes are 15+ years old. You may want to go shopping with her rather than surprise her with something. A robe that feels like heaven on one person may not be appealing to someone else.
