2003 toyota matrix about a week ago my sibling pointed out the floor on the passenger side was wet. i figured water spilled so i ignored it. two days ago i noticed it was still wet and the floor in the back seat on the passenger side was wet as well so i took the mats out to dry. this morning that entire side was still soaking wet. i had a 10 hour drive today and by the end of it so much water accumulated that it created a puddle in the back seat (as pictured). what could cause this and is it something i could fix myself? i just took my car in to get the ac fixed about 2.5 weeks ago and the mechanic couldn’t find a leak so he added freon and told me to come back when it stops working but as of now it is still working. it did rain A LOT during my drive so maybe there’s a broken seal? it just seems odd for the entire passenger side to be affected by that. back seat is worse than the front now if that matters.

no
oh thank you! i’ll check both of those out
wouldn’t i be having other issues if it was coolant? i haven’t had any problems with my car overheating (yet at least)
I know the heater core can leak into the car if it's going bad but if you aren't losing any coolant or running the heat it's probably not that. It's probably a clogged drain somewhere.
solved
I would definitely lean toward the drain being plugged if it happens consistently regardless of if it is raining or not. The evaporator pulls moisture out of the air very effectively and will do this 100% of the time even in the driest areas. I love in NV, all desert, and I get plenty of water dripping from my HVAC box here. If you are in a humid area it will be so much worse.
door seals, the matrix is known for that. also look under the dash on passenger side, if the ac drain is clogged it can dump water right there. had same thing in my car and it was a tiny tear in the door rubber, water runs down and pools in the back cause thats the low spot
do you have a sun roof
AC drain is clogged
You sure it's water and not coolant? Also there is a drain on the front cowl that sometimes gets clogged and let's water into the car
Stop pissing on the floor
Do you have sunroof? Maybe too the condensation line could be clogged up?
I had this and it was from AC leaking. Do you get a wet spot on the ground after driving? If not, it’s probably getting into the car.
In the last few years I had this happen on two vehicles. Was clogged sunroof drains.
Just wear swimming trunks when you drive silly
This looks like condensation from the ac not draining properly which is usually caused by a clogged hose. If it cant drain out it all piles up and dumps out into the passenger seat commonly lol. Theres other things it could be too but my mind couldnt help but think of this first because I had a car that did this at one point 😂
Spray condensed air up the condenser drain hose that should be hanging loosely off on the passenger side of the car underneath it. It should be draining water out when the AC is running. They also make a expanding cleaning foam to clean it out that you can purchase at a parts store as well if it's really clogged up. It is not very expensive.
Your sunroof drain is clogged or the drain underneath your windshield wipers is clogged. It is going to be one of those 100%!
