They both look pretty sleek. For practicality, I’d definitely go with the Camry. Not only does hybrid = better gas mileage, but hybrid = it uses an eCVT which is infinitely simpler and more reliable than the best automatic and manual transmissions

That’s dramatic lol, Camry is obviously more reliable, but K5s are pretty solid

Also Isn’t Camry more reliable/ longer lasting than Kia?

u/placerouge

Yes and resale value will be better too.

But both these houses have AC /s

Just a metaphor.

Best response right here

A car is not an investment. It is an expense. People really need to learn that.

Mileage and price difference? I know that Camry isn't cheap.

Look-wise, the Kia. Quality and longevity, the camry.

Camry all day, not even a question

Camry is more efficient, more reliable, holds its value better, and as an added bonus is actually pretty fun to drive (232 horsepower on the AWD model with instant torque from the electric engine). Interior comfort mostly depends on options so not really worth commenting on beyond the fact that having tried both as rentals, I marginally preferred the base trim Camry.

I gotta say it: If your daily commute is doable with daily overnight home-charging, your cheapest long term option is going to be a pure EV. If you can charge at like 10kW, this adds 30 to 50 km of range every hour (up to 20 to 39 miles per hour).

My sister had the same dilemma a few years ago, but she was shopping between a Corolla and a Forte...she got the Kia because it was cheaper. Then the news let the world know how easy to steal they were and her car was broken into and "stolen" 3 times. She had her insurance cancel her on top of all that and it dropped in value like a rock and she was stuck with it. Luckily, she eventually paid it off enough that she was able to trade it in for a Corolla....this was like 2 years ago, it's not a story from a long time ago OP...get the Toyota.

People always resort to black and white. "Avoid Kia" "never the K5". Yes, the Camry will live a longer life and have better resale. Over the course of a normal 10 year ownership, the total cost of repairs and maintenance will be similar enough that you should pick the one you want. Either car could be a lemon, and either could be perfectly reliable. If you are truly worried but want the Kia, take the money saved on the Kia and set it aside for repairs. The Kia likely has a nicer interior, more tech, and a better driving experience. That counts for something. Is there more that could go wrong? Yes. A house with A/C also has more things that could go wrong than one without, but if you need AC to sleep, then the AC is worth it. Just weigh the pros and cons and make a decision. These cars are close enough that either will be fine and it's just personal preference.

Lol I have a Camry for gas mileage and resale value; I prefer the look, seat comfort, and warranty of the K5.

What's your commute time? How many days per week?

If you want a hybrid but don’t want to spend as much on the Camry, look at the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. Or Elantra Hybrid for that matter. Hyundais hybrids use a traditional geared transmission as opposed to the CVTs in their naturally aspirated engine only versions. And they are pretty good. Made better in almost all regards. However. Id go without until I had enough for the Camry, myself. Only because reliability. The Toyota eCVT is bulletproof as others have mentioned here.

I’m a big fan of Kia’s newer K line cars, they look great and I assume are cheaper than the Camry hybrid. Choose whichever you like more as I find driving a car you don’t like is miserable

u/millenniumxl-200

That's a weird looking Miata.

u/Magee-Numismatics

Camry hybrid, avoid the K5 at all costs.

u/Dude_Just_Stop

The Camry will retain so much more value over time, a much better investment if it’s a toss up between the two cars.

u/PhantomSpirit90

I’ll be up front and state I have a bias towards Toyota and Honda. Even so, I’m taking the Camry 10/10 times.

Buy a Hyundai if you hate yourself.

My 2024 K5 GT-Line got me a lot of "oh nice car!" comments, which was wonderful. That car was a looker, I must say. It was also just incredibly cheaply made, pieces of it started coming apart a year into ownership, many of the included features just did not work as advertised (the wireless charger didn't work because the sensor sat too far away from where the phone rested, so only by basically putting a wadded up piece of paper in the cupholder like charger made the phone sit high enough to actually reach the wireless charger, which then promptly works like complete ass and charges your phone about 2% over a 90 minute drive but leaves your phone blazing hot afterward) Go with the Camry.
