GPU help for Engineering

Hey everyone, im starting my BEng Environmental Engineering in september and an thinking of upgrading my GPU. I currently have a 1660ti thats been overclocked. I’ve been looking at the 9060xt 16gb but everyone seems to say NVIDIA is the way because of CUDA and DLSS. Because of that I switched my hunt to the 5060ti 16gb but its about $200 more than the 9060xt. Any reccomendations are welcome. Im in Canada and would like to spend around $600-$700 before tax

I would just spend the extra on the 5060 ti if there is a chance of needing cuda. And if you do overclock then that is another plus as the 5060 ti has quite a bit more oc headroom

At the lower end it should give you a fair bit more performance over a 1660, extra VRAM may help but it isn't necessarily helpful. https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/nvidia-5060-ti-vs-amd-9060-xt-for-content-creation/ I'd move to a 5070 instead (pricing of lower end SKUs typically overlaps and most of the cash is going to a faster processor and memory interface)
What programs will you be using?
ArcGIS... NVIDIA and nothing else. Esri's official system requirements explicitly state that ArcGIS Pro requires an NVIDIA GPU with CUDA compute capability for its spatial analyst tools, AI feature extraction, and deep learning modules. With the AMD 9060 XT, these features will either crash or force the computer to process data on the CPU, making heavy data mapping agonizingly slow. https://doc.esri.com/en/arcgis-pro/latest/get-started/arcgis-pro-system-requirements.html
If $700 is your maximum budget, you don't have enough money for a 5060ti 16gb since the cheapest model currently costs more than $800. I highly suggest getting a used GPU instead if you need an Nvidia GPU for less than $700.
Check your program syllabus. That will tell you what kind of hardware requirements you're going to have for any software you'll need to be running on your own machine for your first year.
In structural engineering, most software prefers NVIDIA's CUDA architecture over AMD's RDNA. I'm not 100% sure if environmental engineering software is the same, but you might run into some compatibility hurdles if your field relies on the same GPU-accelerated tools. I recommend paying the extra 200CAD for the 5060Ti-16GB, if you want my honest opinion
You can Snag a 3060 12gb on eBay canada for 350. Do that.
