So Im basically planning to upgrade my CPU for my PC. Im currently running a i5-9600K for my 6650XT and im looking for recommendations. Im playing on 1080p and I would like something that would atleast get me to a stable minimum 240 FPS since im looking to upgrade my monitor aswell. My main games are League and CS2, but i would love to play the new Borderlands too. Budget doesnt really matter, but I wouldnt want anything too overly expensive. Thank you for the replies and recommendations.

The 9600K is pretty much end of the line for your board and more cores don't help with CS2/League. You either get an AM4 board with a 5500X3D or you sell your first born for an AM5 build.
I wouldnt mind upgrading to AM5 either, since I want to somewhat “future proof” my build.
Z390 is my current motherboard.
As dumb as it sounds, If you upgrade to AM5 you might want to upgrade your GPU aswell if you have the budget, maybe not immediately, but at some point later on. Also "future proofing" doesn't exist in tech, you are always playing catch-up in some way. Edit: You won't need a new GPU for CS2 and League most likely, but won't need AM5 for that either. It will do numbers tho in different games, if you intens to play any.
This. My cousin is on a i7-8700/B365 and 6650xt. Recently, it started having issues (wouldn't post) and i was also telling him to upgrade to 5500x3d/b550. In the end it turned out to be a ram issue though.
What motherboard do you have? With a z370 or z390 you could overclock the 9600k and gain 10~15% depending on how good your chip is
My 10600K (which is basically the same cpu) did 5.2 Ghz, no questions asked. Never got close to 240 fps in CS2 (6900 XT btw). With my 5800X3D, it never dips below 240, making my monitor the bottleneck (165 Hz).
7500X3D is 200 bucks (german pricing, incl. tax). Goes nice with a B650 Tomahawk. B850 for (kinda) 4 ram stick support. CS2/League do well with 16 gb ram (and even less), so there is that. Personally, I went with the 5800X3D and a B550 board (roughly 500 bucks incl. tax and shipping, which is basically the price of 32 gb ddr5 ram with decent timings). With my 6900XT it crushes CS2, going well above 240 fps on max settings.
