I have noticed that the humidity in my townhome is always around the 60% to 70% range and would like to know of a dehumidifier that would be best. It’s a two-story townhome around 1000 square feet with central air. We keep the temp around 70 to 72. I have heard people say dehumidifiers heat up your space and I would like to avoid that but I don’t know how true that is. My partner has asthma as well and I’m hoping this may be a solution to how bad their asthma gets. Edit: Forgot to say im renting the place posted this late at night while doing research

Something doesn’t sound right having central AC and humidity that high…. Maybe get an HVAC guy to come look. Could possibly be an oversized system
Not taking a jab at you, but calling them Corsi Rosenthal boxes amuses me: the design has been around for decades and has been used by woodworkers and experimental aircraft painters for ages. Again, not poking fun at you.

Your AC is too big or broken. 1000 sqft is 2 ton and below territory. You need any dehumidifier you can get for the time being and also Have the return duct upsized and use a media filter for it. I would also look into building 2 corsi rosenthal boxes with the PC fans. Google it
I have friends that do this at their beach house. The main return for the HVAC is under the stairs in the foyer. There is a dehumidifier in the foyer with a hose that goes to the bathroom shower when the house is not occupied (they empty the bucket when it’s occupied) and it takes the humidity down without overcooling the house. If you can park the dehumidifier near your air return and near a drain, you will simplify the system and pump dryer air into the A Coil.
The Costco midea unit is a good one. Its efficient, its technically making heat but you cant feel it. The unit has 3 ways to get rid of condensate, a bucket, gravity drain, or internal pump and it comes with line for the pump. Great choice, you can end up using less energy as you can get the house comfortable at higher temperatures.
A 40 yr old westinghouse or a 40 yr old Kenmore
I have had a Midea dehumidifier running in my townhouse upstairs for the last few years and have been very happy with it. It definitely helps.
Go to big box hardware store and buy a 1-gallon dehumidifier. Won't "heat up the room", but will improve living conditions and air quality.
You could install a Aprilaire, or a Watchdog brand dehumidifier. They run about $1500-$2500, removing 60-80 pints of water per hour. Quiet for a compressor and very reliable.
I'd definitely get one if the humidity is staying that high. Around 45 to 50% usually feels much more comfortable. They do give off a little heat, but not enough to bother most people. Hopefully it helps with your partner's asthma too. Curious what models others reccomend.
