Should i change transmission fluid ?
So i recently bought an 2018 Nissan Altima 2.5 it has 152k miles. I dont know the transmission maintnance at all so im debating if i should change the transmission fluid. The car runs good other than it shuddering when i come to a stop and when i accelerate…
So i recently bought an 2018 Nissan Altima 2.5 it has 152k miles. I dont know the transmission maintnance at all so im debating if i should change the transmission fluid. The car runs good other than it shuddering when i come to a stop and when i accelerate off of a stop or a turn. What should i do? And what will fix the shuddering?

So you think its smart to do the fluid drain and fill?

Cant return it 😭. The symptoms just started happening like a week after i bought the car. I just got it 2 weeks ago. You think i can save it by doing the drain and fill?
If you can't catch magnetic particles at the bottom of the pan, then new fluid should help. Don't expect factory fresh
If you drain, you'll only get a small portion of contaminated fluid. Exchange all the ATF. http://straighttalkautomotive.com/articles/transmission-flush.html
If at all possible, return the car. CVTs from Nissan are time bombs. With any used car, assume no maintenance has been done without documentation. There is a good chance that the transmission is already on the way out the door. If the transmission fluid pan is aluminum you can get a general idea of the condition by dragging a magnet across the pan in a "*" shape. If the magnet starts sticking in the center of the *, you're in trouble. If your magnet does not start sticking, you can try a fluid change. It should help with your symptoms.
that shudder is probably the cvt acting up already. at 152k with unknown history a fluid change is a gamble, could make it slip worse or buy you some time. if the fluid is black and smells burnt i would leave it alone and start saving for a new transmission honestly those nissan cvts are not great. maybe try a drain and fill not a flush to be safe but dont expect miracles
If you do change the fluid, get Amsoil fluid. Using cheap fluid will only make things worse. Also, get an inline transmission filter from Magnefine or whatever. Put it after the cooler.
