Budget personal blenders - is it worth investing in for daily smoothies?

I am looking for a personal portable blender to make smoothies throughout the week for breakfast as well as protein shakes…I am not interested in a bulky oversized blender and am also not looking to overspend. Obviously popular options recommended are Ninja and Nutribullet… but I have been considering the KOIOS personal blender that runs about mid $30 and it comes with three 22oz travel cups. Having the option of multiple cups to rotate between home, work, car, dishwasher, etc seems convenient to me. Still, I am concerned about long term use, durability and noise levels. Also, how does it handle frozen fruit. For anyone that has uses an affordable portable blender for awhile…when does saving money pay off or just a waste of money? What features are non-negotiable for nearly everyday use? Thanks!

IDK about where you live, but if i were to buy a smoothie it would cost anywhere from $10-$15. A similar homemade smoothie would run $1-$2. The value of owning a blender is worth it assuming you make a smoothie.. once a month.
Have you ever watched a Blendtec "Will it Blend?" video. They have blended batteries, an IPhone, golf balls, and a hockey puck. The polycarbonate (plastic) container holds up just fine.
The blenders they are using are not cheap
Cleaning seems to be one of the biggest challenges with this kind of stuff, so just want to say it's good you brought it up. It should be a top consideration if you are trying to regularly make a smoothie.
Funny, i usually have the opposite problem where the frozen ingredients cool the air and make a vacuum that sucks the gasket out of the groove
I use a micronized powder that expands a bit. If I blend it too long I will never get it open from the pressure. lol.
The part that fails on these is the drive coupler between the motor and the jar, and on the cheap ones it's plastic on both sides. Worth checking whether the base has a metal drive before you compare anything else. Wattage on personal blenders is close to meaningless as a number. It's a peak figure, not what the thing puts out while it's actually blending.
I make a fruit and protein smoothie every day and have been using a Nutribullet for years. I’ve replaced the plastic container and blade assembly once because the old one started leaking occasionally. Otherwise it’s extremely compact and effective, not that loud for a blender, takes up way less space on the countertop than a full sized blender, and I can clean it under running hot water in under 30 seconds. Note that I always clean it immediately after finishing and I don’t put it in the dishwasher. Leaving the contents to harden in the sink all day - well I suppose that would make cleaning considerably more difficult.
Bro yes!! 😂😂
Be careful with those personal blenders and adding certain protein powders. They expand when blended and pressurize the vessel and can make a mess or even explode.
I've tried Ninjas and Nutribullets and others of that ilk and they all died within a year or two or just had parts that were impossible to clean thoroughly and got gross. I eventually just gave in and got a big ol Vitamix and I'm way happier.
Get a smaller blend jar for a blendtwc or a vitamix
had a nutribullet for like 4 years before the motor gave out and it was totally worth it at the $50 price point. Never tried KOIOS but for frozen fruit specifically the blade design matters way more than the wattage number on the box. Anything under 700w is gonna struggle with frozen stuff and just make that awful grinding noise without actually blending it smooth. The multiple cups thing is genuinely useful though not gonna lie. My only non-negotiable after daily use is that the blade assembly has to be easy to rinse or you just stop using it.
Budget personal = disposable Thats just the reality of manufacturing at a low price point. Injection molded plastic parts are an order of magnitude cheaper than metal.
Ninjas are at yard sales all the time. Like $20 and under. But I got a vitamix over a decade ago as an upgrade and 100% worth it. Make a smoothie every single day.
Got the Costco Vitamix a few years ago, make smoothies every day and use it for all sorts of sauces and soups. It's probably paid for itself a few times over at this point, no joke.
Have an Oster from the 1970s. Glass jar that handles anything. One time we did LiPo batteries. Check your local thrift for anything with a glass (not plastic) top piece.

If you're blending daily, durability matters more than extra cups. A stronger motor and easy replacement parts usually pay off over time.
I have a black and decker I got at Lowe’s 10 years ago for like $25. I make a smoothie every day. I do consider getting one of the expensive ones when it goes bad.
I've been using the Nutri Ninja Pro 900w for about 6 years now and it's perfect for smoothies imo. Quick, easy, decent power for frozen fruit, lots of first and third party cups available if you need more. I've read reviews from some folks getting their cups stuck but found if you don't over-fill and clean the cradle once and a while it's fine. I've probably made a few thousand smoothies and it's still ticking so I'd say it was worth the $70 or so I paid at the time.
I've had a pink mini Cuisinart blender since I went to college in 2007. It still works great although it does smell like melting plastic sometimes LOL. We use it all the time
My smoothie blender is some no name offbrand so I can't speak to quality ones, but I have been eating much healthier breakfasts (eating them at all actually lol.) I can put all my dry stuff in the cup the night before, then dump in my yogurt and honey in the morning, blend for 30s, and I'm done. Just make sure you get one with easily removable lid gaskets.
You can buy decent blenders with thick glass that will last years and at very reasonable prices. Fantastic for summer time. https://www.rtings.com/blender/reviews/best/glass
Please make sure if it’s too loud use ear protection I used rtings to find the best quietist blender and got the black and decker quiet blender and plan to replace it when it breaks. It works great with the frozen fruit bag from Costco.
