is 32gb ddr5 ram enough?
i got a great deal on a used pc a few years ago and it came with 64gb ddr5 ram, and i’m wondering if i should sell 32gb of it to partly subsidize getting a ps5 pro (for gta6). my current specs: - i9-12900K - RX 7800 XT - asus prime z790 - 850 w psu main games…

Asking the real questions
Depends what you are doing, but 16 is usually still fine for the vast majority of use cases. I still use 16 on my portable workstation, but I am running linux which has a much smaller memory footprint than windows.
In my experience, 16GB isn't enough for modded Minecraft. Even if you allocate 8GB for big modpacks, it will still use more than that regardless
All the people in here saying yes 32 is enough but only you are saying yes 32 is enough but use both your sockets. OP would need to sell both 32s and buy 2 16s.
To elaborate for OP, if you have two sticks of 32gb, keep what you have as you want a dual channel set up. If it's four sticks of 16gb, then you could sell two and still have dual channel.
Being on a 12900, RAM is a massive part of performance.
Sure, but that system could run okay on 32. Maybe not at max settings, but if the system is setup properly, XMP turned on, the system and GPU tuned appropriately, bloatware turned off, I could see that system working just fine. I run an 11900k with ddr4 on three monitors, one being a g9 and could run any of those games without issue.
You're okay two sell 2 sticks then. Your GPU has 16gb of VRAM so you shouldn't notice any changes.

if ur using 16 gb of ram and you think it's not enough, its probably because you have 10 background applications on startup and 30-40% of your memory usage is bloatware. For most consumer use it is RARE to go beyond 16 gb of memory use.

Depends. If you have two sticks of 32GB, you will lose dual channel if you use only one stick, which will noticeably affect performance. If you have 4 sticks of 16GB, then yes getting rid of 2 of those sticks would benefit you if you don’t use the extra ram.

32 gb is more than enough. Though make sure you remove the proper slots according to your motherboard.
"Enough" is a subjective term. Chances are, that wont be your bottleneck. One way to tell for sure would be to pull the 32 for a week or two before selling and see how it runs.
I would personally sell the RAM, buy 32gb instead, and save that money. Rockstar wants you to buy GTA 6 twice, the full experience costing $100. It doesn’t make sense to buy a PS5 at the end of its life cycle just to play GTA 6 at 30-45 fps.
