30k miles on rebuilt trans with upgrades. 230k on motor. I was driving it the other day and it started making noise while driving. When I got back home once in park no noise. If I threw it back in drive or reverse I got the noise. Edit please see the second video in comments. It might be a secondary issue. ISSUE FOUND Torque converter bolts were loose.

That’s what I thought. I pulled the valve cover on passenger side and everything looked good and tight. Jumped the starter to watch the rockers go up and down. Everything seemed fine
It’s not constant? The noise? The lifter is still working but it’s getting weak. Check both sides. Push down on the pushrod. But be prepared for a delete or go the cheap route and replace one bank. But I’d just do the whole thing.
Ok now that I hear that it does sound like it’s in the bellhousing. You can pull the inspection cover and use a long thick flathead and turn it over little by little with the teeth of the flex plate and look at it but you may need to drop the starter and look at the mounting bolts. The torque converter bolts may be loose

Here it is sitting in the drive way. Burb is in drive or reverse. Wheels are chalked and someone is in the drivers seat with ebrake and regular brake applied
