I have an almost 11 yo LG fridge/freezer combo (fridge on top), and have recently discovered a sheet of ice keeps forming in the bottom of the freezer. The first time I realized that was the issue, was after I had trouble getting the freezer box door shut. Now I remove a thick sheet of ice every other day, but with a three week traveling plan coming up, I’m nervous about what can happen. Looks like those openings are the culprits, but is there anything I can do about it? If I can’t fix it, would turning off the water supply to the water/ice dispenser in the fridge part be a makeshift solution at least, until I can afford a new appliance?

In freezers, ice creates ice. The ice will form when there's too much humidity in the freezer and then it will create an ice dam which will then block air flow from the freezer to the refrigerator. Easiest solution? Empty the refrigerator, unplug the fridge for 6 hours with the doors open, let it all defrost, start it up again.
