Hello, I’m new to this community, I’m 20 and I have a question for other parents. How did you baby proof your outlets? and did your child also try to pull the outlet covers out constantly?? My daughter who had just turned 1, is a very smart and curious girl. She crawls faster than I can blink, and is always getting into things my grandparents have out. (I live with my grandparents and parents.) One of the things she’s been doing, is pulling out the little clear plastic outlet covers we have in the wall.. and then proceeds to try to stick her fingers into the outlet.. she knows she’s not supposed to do it, which makes her do it more. she will have a smirk on her face and crawl at the speed of light to this certain outlet.. so I need some suggestions of what I should do.. my mom told me last night, that me and my brother never messed with outlets so they never had to worry about it. So it’s kind of a learning process for all of us 😭 please help 🙏🏻

That’s us too. I was annoyed that my wife bought all these things but baby paid no mind to any of it. But the cabinets in the kitchen we didn’t baby’s proof were her go to any chance she gets. We proofed them now so she gets mad she can’t open them

Maybe try a different brand of outlet covers. The ones we have are so hard to get out even I struggle with it! I think they’re from Safety First
No, my kid never did attempt to touch them — to the point that my partner was annoyed we even bothered. But I would consider shopping for alternatives or blocking with furniture in your case.

Our house was remodeled in 2012 and has all tamper resistant outlets. We also put the little plastic plug covers in and never had an issue.
Can you try a different brand of cover that is harder to remove? Ours are honestly a pain even for me to remove. Keeping her nails short may also help prevent her from getting a good enough grip to pull them out. We've also hidden most of our outlets behind furniture, and have a large baby gate blocking one edge of our living room where theres some outlets we didn't have a good way to baby proof.
If you're allowed to, maybe try some tamper-proof outlets? If only for the ones she can access. There's a bunch of different types depending on your level of skill.
I put blank covers over all the outlets I didn't need regularly. No way the kids can remove them haha
Its possible that the outlet is old and therefore not holding on to the cover like it should, if its the kind on the left in the photo. I have found that if the outlet is nice and tight kids have a harder time getting the cover off, even if they do have the manual dexterity for it. You could try replacing the outlet and see if that helps. Another option is something more like the one on the right in this photo.
My oldest was drawn to everything she wasn't supposed to do like a moth to a flame. She could pull the covers out better than any of the adults could. If the outlet isn't used for anything you could just put a blank cover over it. They're cheap at a local hardware store. Or swap it out with a tamper resistant one. Changing outlets isn't really too hard.
my 18m pulls the outlet covers out, so we bought these boxes that safety first makes that covers the whole outlet and you can store cords in it. he cant get those open.
We have box style covers over ours, they have a hinge lid which can only be opened by pressing in both sides of the lid at the same time. Even I struggle to open them at times.
Ours never messed with them. Try different outlet covers. Ours are a pain in the ass to get out.
Do your outlets say TR on them?
I had to put the plastic covers under the plates for the outlets. The ones I actually use, I bought those childproof boxes that cover the outlet. I got them on Amazon and they're legit child proof (sometimes I have a hard time opening them haha) and easy to install. They also have boxes for power strips! My daughter has figured out all the other childproofing I've done but thankfully not those!
In the UK the covers that slot actually make our sockets LESS safe
None of my kids have messed with them. I will say I did as a kid. When we moved in I replaced all the receptacles with TRRs, which is required in the updated code anyway. Figured, why not. You don't have to, but it updates the house and you don't have to mess with those stupid covers.
