2016 jeep cherokee latitude 4x4 pentastar 3.2L 113k miles The little red tab is pulled out. I have the special electrical disconnect pliers. But its not disconnecting. What’s the secret? Update: yeah so it didn’t want to release. I simply rotated the throttle body/upper intake over to the fuse box/battery area. I had enough room to replace my coils to complete my tune up that took way too long. I got the wrong coils from rock auto, then i had to pay return shipping, and i ended up paying the higher mopar price anyway. And to top it off, i had to rip everything apart twice! I got all the electrical connections apart except the one, and thats ok.

and some connectors the red tab has a false pull. Where you'll think you pulled the red tab far enough, but you actually need to pull it out even further. the plugs on many Ford spark coils are like this.
Take a pick and lift the tab inside the connector.
red tab is a locking mechanism, you pull it out then you still gotta press the main release tab down while wiggling the whole thing
Use the strength of 1000 men to take it off, pain is your friend here.
Push it in a little first, it'll break the seal made by dust and the seal/gasket on the connectors
Tab is not pulled out far enough, or is jammed, I sometimes use a small flathead to pry the whole tab out, not once has any come undone by themselves if the internal squeeze clipping is still working. F those little red tabs.
You have to squeeze the inside of the tab with your fingers I believe while gently pulling.
Squeeze the red tab and use a flat head screwdriver to gently (but firmly) slide the connector off. Work your way around the whole thing and watch your finger when it comes loose.
I like to lift the locking tab with a pick or pocket screwdriver because plastic tabs love to break
Lift the pin from the front with something hard and thin, like a tiny flat screwdriver or something.
