The BMW Z4 convertible top is probably one of the most problematic mechanisms in all of automotive history. Go and look at a Z4 forum, and you'll almost always see people posting about issues with either the hydraulics, the frame, or the electronics.

Would love to but cant rly stretch the budget more trying to keep a good amount of money not used on the car

I get it, but if you are spending only $5k on a z4, it’s going to have lots of expensive problems that the brz/gt86 won’t have

Cars are a bit cheaper in the uk to the us i belive theres a 24k mile z4 for £4500 listed fairly close

That's more than a bit cheaper, without checking I feel like that's a 12-15k car where I live. Changes my advice, get a beemer!

That is Oskar Norberg's on TT That's not mine. I just didn't have a video of mine before it blew up and now I've got the wagon. Blew it at 350k+ miles tho just sayin

Yeah, it will be 5k for the car, then 6k for repairs

u/SockeyCram

5k for a z4? Maybe… but you’ll have to pay 10k in repairs ha

Nah bought a Z4 awhile ago for 2200 and drove it for 6 months ran fine

Kinda good for me i want a car that drives nice looks good but isnt too fast bc uk insurance would charge me more than the car is worth if it had too much horsepower

u/mayorHudson

I would stretch your budget a bit and go for a first gen brz/frs/gt86

u/Remote_Catch7166

It’s gonna be expensive to repair the Celica. It not a car you can find easily

u/greyoldguy58

neither the insurance will be too high and you will be buying something that will most likely be unreliable for that amount of money.

The Celica always looked pretty good, but man... You ain't going nowhere quick with that powertrain

u/Likelysuspect69420

For 5k these days you can get something reliable, nice looking, or a little bit fast, but really only 1 of the 3 sorry. 10k is entry for a decent car now imho, US btw.

I don't think you should listen to anyone here especially if your a guy your budget might be 5K but your insurance might be $500 just something to think about now. Remember once you go this way you can't ever go back OK you're like this for life it's permanent. It's called a ✨Volvo S 60R✨ I know you want one You don't get one though you're 18 you're gonna crash it get a practice one first the practice one is called the🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 ✨Volvo S 60 2.5T✨ it's a coup that technically has 4 doors for insurance premiums... or lack there of 😉 Turbo charged reliably out of the factory With a cold air intake and exhaust system and a stage, one tune, and this girl sounds like a trumpet fingering a horse Stu … Stu… Stu This one is not my Volvo I have had two of them tho the sedan just like this one mine looked almost identical but right now I have the wagon so I just pulled one on the Internet Credit: Oskar Norberg

Does not matter what part of the developed world you are in, at 18yo you are a prey and walking liability for any insurer. Before committing to anything, find an agent that is open to a chat and ask them which cars would be the cheapest to insure for you. Go through as many brands and models as you can. If you can get your parents as co-signers or to own your policy with you being a secondary driver, then look at what is considered "classic" in UK - and save on road tax and insurance. And since you are in UK, you can choose not just EU, but also JDM models. There is a huge selection of anything from weird to interesting, enough to stand out.

8th gen civic 1.8 5 speed manual

At 18, buy something that won’t make the insurance actuary clutch his chest. Your brain is still under construction, so a cheap Civic, Corolla, or Mazda3 is a much better idea than a $5,000 sports car with deferred maintenance and a teenager behind the wheel.
