I need a car to take back to college, and I found this 2003 Toyota Highlander on marketplace! Its listed at $4,000, and has 160k miles on a replaced engine (200k on the body), replaced the transmission fluid recently, new tires, engine gaskets replaced, and a few other minor things. Is this listing too good to be true, and is the engine change a bad sign or is that a common to get done for highlanders of that year? Thank you!

I mean, these are generally very reliable vehicles but any engine can fail for multiple reasons. Just test drive it and scan the codes after.

That Highlander body looks straight, the Limited trim is nice. The replaced engine at 160k is a bit of a flag, I would want to know exactly why it was swapped, like if the original had the sludge issue or it was overheated. Transmission fluid change is good but ask if they just drain and filled or did a full flush, flushed can cause problems sometimes. For $4k its a decent price if everything checks out but take it to a mechanic before you buy, they can look for leaks or frame rust. Those V6 engines are tough but a bad swap job will give you trouble later, so ask who did the work.
