Not used the Mendota, but my Ruffwear rope leash has been in use for 15 years. It outlived my 12 year old Saint Bernard and now is used with my Leonberger, 110 & 105 pound dogs respectively. The rope and climbing style clasp are still going strong!

The rope is strong n doesn't breaks easily, moreover it also depends on the dog's breed n weight

I have a couple of those for my dogs and they've held up well, but my dogs are 8 pounds and 22 pounds. The leashes have been dropped on the floor plenty of times and the clasp didn't break off though.

I dont know anything about Mendota. If you need a truly strong leash, a horse lead is very strong and not that expensive. You can also go on Etsy and have someone make you a lead out of climbing rope with a locking carabiner. I have both a horse lead and a long line made out of climbing rope.. both are super strong. Its rare that we use either of those things nowadays. I taught my boy not to pull and its much easier on both of our bodies. A horse lead and training your dog is what I would recommend.

never had that one but my dog chewed through two leashes and the third one finally held up. sometimes the clasp is fine just the dog is the problem
