Why don't all apartments come with a microwave like why do I have to buy everything separately. A microwave is like living without a coffee machine, the amount of times I use it is insane and I don't want to hear how bad it is for your health. It saves me so much time and money but now that I've moved, it wasn't something I even thought about. I asked the owner about it and he said the old one broke and they never replaced it, so now I have to buy one myself. Where am I supposed to look for one that's affordable but also built to last because I'd like to buy something that I can take with me the next time I move instead of replacing it again.

Panasonic at Costco, but it is not the large one. Should last 5 years and if you are like my friend, when it breaks, take it back for a full refund.
I'm sad to hear this. Mine is at least 30 years old (I don't remember when I got it but I know it was before I moved into my current house). I guess I'll have to replace it with junk when the time comes.

That's where I got mine just not the same brand but I paid around 50 bucks for it and I don't really care about the brand as long as it does its job.
Whenever I hear someone say they paid a lot more just because of the brand name I don't get it like most of the time you're paying for the name more than anything else. I had my previous microwave for years and the only reason I bought another one was because I moved out of my parents house and couldn't take it with me. \
You can get a good one for less than $100. Home depot,Lowes, Walmart, Costco. This time of year a lot on sale for students going off to college.
Rebel is worth checking before paying full price that's where I found my Toshiba microwave for around 100 bucks and it was quite a bit cheaper than everywhere else I looked it gets used every day and has been working perfectly so far
I recently spent a lot of time researching this. There is no such thing as a reliable microwave anymore. Just buy something cheap.
The weird thing about microwaves is most of them are made by the same company. I would aim for a 1000w one, anything smaller will have longer cooking times and it will throw directions off if following any. As another commenter said, i would go for the one at Costco.
Walmart $50 , lasts for years.

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had a microwave die on me. Sounds like you’re overthinking this a little bit. I wouldn’t get a dirt cheap one, but any half way decent microwave should be totally fine
My previous apartments didn’t have microwaves, so I bought an inexpensive one, a GE, that served me for years. It is now in the back of my closet because my current apartment has a built in microwave.
GE seem to last a very very long time. In my experience.
When I had a counter top my Panasonic lasted for years - I wound up giving it away to one of the workers when I remodeled. I now have a Sharp microwave drawer and it is used at least once a day for the past 8 years and no problems.
I’ve never had a microwave issue in my life except with this piece of shit LG in my current house
Choose an inexpensive one based on the buttons you find convenient to push. I bought a Panasonic from walmart. Better to buy cheaper so replacement is not a problem, because they do die.
Buy a commercial one. I got a Panasonic commercial microwave after two GE ones dies after a couple years (previous GE before those lasted over 10 years…). I found a new, unused one on FB Marketplace for $185 (including shipping). Bonus is that the turntable is under the bottom of it, so you never have to take out that wheel to clean it. You can program it for longer, but it comes with 10 or so preset time buttons that go up to 3 min. Highly recommend. I’ve had it about 8 years now. They are made for business use and made to last a lot longer than residential microwaves. Panasonic does have a good reputation for microwaves.
Just go to goodwill or a yardsale and get one for 5 or 10 bucks. I have 2 extras sitting around i would gladly give you if you were nearby. Literally a throw away item.
Panasonic (inverter models only) and LG. They're both vertically integrated, making their own components. Everything else is made by the same two companies with the exception of Sharp, which makes their own and several other brands of drawer microwaves.
They’re not cheap but i’d say Panasonic, haven’t gotten more than 10 years out of a GE. I’m sure some of the GE dying is due to me/family microwaving water/steaming vegetables all the time and the humidity just sitting in there. Some higher end microwaves have an exhaust fan that runs after you microwave something to dry out the inside.
Check garage sales and thrift stores often. Got an LG Microwave for $5 at Goodwill that retailed for $200 when it first came out. Going on 7 years now and still works like new.
