What is the best product to feed a dog to stop urine from turning grass brown? We are in a temporary rental and the grass is dying.

This. Or keep a hose nearby. You just need to dilute the urine before it burns the grass roots. Hosing to spread it will result in crazy lush green patches in about 3 weeks intead of dead spots.

My male dogs have never killed the grass like my female does. I never realized it was an issue until I got her 2 yrs ago.

It's cause male dogs tend to spread out their urine more whereas female dogs tend to let it all go in one spot.

The urine is killing the grass for the same reason that over-applying fertilizer can kill plants Urea = nitrogen = fertilizer

It's not hormones. It's because they tend to pee all at once in one spot. While many male dogs will spread it around while marking. There are exceptions of course.

This is what we do. Either a gallon jug x 2, or a bucket, or the hose when it feels necessary.

Walk the dog off property so they don't pee on it as often. If on property, carry a water bottle outside with you, every time, and wash the pee away asap. Don't mess with your dogs diet and health just to keep some grass green.

My male dog tends to pee on things rather than the grass. But when he pees on the grass, it does. Pee from males kills grass just as bad as pee from females.

Our male dogs killed the grass just as badly as our females. Dogs are just really hard on grass in general. Our backyard got so terrible at our current house and at our last house that we ended up tearing out the grass and putting in turf. I love the turf!

The best thing to do is water in their urine immediately after they go, you need to give it a decent water for about 20 seconds. If this is not possible, just make sure to always water in their first wee of the day in the morning as this does the most damage

I currently have two females and a male and there are no dead spots on my lawn. Most of my neighbors have dogs and their lawns have no spots either, and nobody around here walks their dogs (I play with them in the yard or take them to the forest to hike but they mostly do their business in the yard). Mostly always had female dogs too and never had this issue; I’ve only ever heard about it on reddit.

I don’t think that exists / is the best solution for the dog. I would personally just take them on a walk regularly and not have them pee in the yard. Alternatively train them to just use specific area that you hose of regularly / can re-do easier at a later stage. Also much more hygienic / easier if you want to use the yard for yourself or other humans ;)

I’ve heard that these additives can be harmful and encourage bladder stone formation. So I’d check with your vet first.

training the dog to use one designed area of the yard might be the easiest fix especially since you're only in the rental temporarily

After the dog pees you need to pour water on the spot. I believe there is something you can get from pet stores too.

An answer a little outside the box: change their water dish frequently to have clean water and a clean bowl or get one of the recirculating water bowls to encourage them to drink more

I would have a watering can filled before she goes and then water down the spot.

I battle with this daily. The only reliable solution is to monitor the dog as much as possible and water the area after the dog pees.

Is your dog female? I was told by my vet that female urine will kill grass, I said why, he said hormones 🤷‍♀️
