How future-proofed is this build? Want to buy all at once instead of making changes over the years, and I wondering if this build warrants the price (it includes white tax). Any glaringly obvious mistakes or options to change pieces to save money? Thanks!

"Future proof" is basically an illusion. It will be sufficient for your needs until it's not. When that will be is something we couldn't begin to guess. I'm not seeing major issues in the build here, though the Crucial P310 is kinda "meh".

In my personal opinion, I could go 10 years with that build. But that's based on my own gaming requirements and expectations. I don't care for RT or PT... 4K maxed out (without RT/PT) is more than enough for me. For reference, I'm still on my AM4 5900x, 32gb DDR4, and X570 motherboard. Will be 6 full years by this November, and I can easily go to 2030 if I wanted to (which I will). OP, your build is wayyy better than mine, so 10 years will be no problem for you. The GPU can also go 10 years because of FSR and Frame-Gen technology. I'd say, it's definitely future-proofed. Go high-end now and enjoy top-tier gaming for the first 5 years, and still really great performance for at least 3 more years after that.

I think you guys just misinterpret what future-proofing means in this context. A build that can serve you well for 10 years is what future-proofing means. If your high-end build now can withstand multiple new generations and still not break a sweat... that's future-proofing. I'm sure this sub can learn something today, as someone who is 6 years with AM4, 5900x, 32gb DDR4, and X570 mobo, which I can easily go 4 more years to 2030 no problem.

I could go 10 years with that build. And this is why I said: It will be sufficient for your needs until it's not. I'm not advocating for OP to upgrade every two years. I'm not saying OP needs to upgrade anything in-particular. I'm saying that there's no way to know how long this build will be sufficient for their needs. YOU could get along with this build for ten years (and that may be true, or it may not be). OP may be able to get by with this build for 5, 10, or 15 years. There's absolutely no way to know. That's why I said that "future proof" is an illusion. To put it another way, circa 2008, a buddy and I built nearly identical machines, using the same motherboard, the same RAM, the same Athlon 64 X2 processor. The only significant difference was that I was using a GeForce 8800GTS, and he used a Radeon X1600XT. In my case, I needed to rebuild the machine less than a year later because my needs changed, and I needed something with a quad-core CPU. My buddy is STILL USING THIS MACHINE. It was "future proof" for him, it wasn't for me. Saying that "future proof is an illusion" isn't telling someone that they need to upgrade every two years. It's saying that they should build a machine that suits their needs, and use it until such time as it doesn't.

A 7600 & 4070 can still last 10-15 years from now at perfectly playable high settings so doing the whole go high end now is just not taking value into consideration at all. If a 9800x3d pc is 15k and a 7600 pc is 1k, you don't go 15k (high end) because it'll last you longer, you go the 1k route because you can make that 7600 pc last the same time as the 15k build. can't believe I need to clarify this for others who read, but the numbers are fictional and are there to show value to price.

Future-proof is not bullshit as many others here like to think. Don't listen to these fear-mongering people who feel obligated to upgrade once every 2 years, and who also misinterpret the meaning of 'future-proofing'. OP, with a build like yours, you can go up to 10 years no problem. Go high-end now, and you can enjoy your CPU, MOBO, RAM for the next 10 years. Only the GPU would require an upgrade in 3-5 years. For reference, I'm still on the same AM4 5900x, 32gb DDR4, and X570 motherboard since 2020. Will be 6 full years by this November. I play at 4K maxed out on all the latest games (7900 XTX). My AM4 setup has zero bottleneck in everything I play.

This ram is only £10 more but is CL30 which would be a nice improvement on CL36 considering it’s only £10 (it’s plain white not rbg though)

I’m still running my 6700k. Admittedly the 980ti did die a few years ago and the 3080 was a bit overkill. But 10 years this things been going. It’s starting to show its age now and the latest AAA games it’s not able to run. I’m needing to upgrade but it’s so difficult to justify the cost these days. I built this PC including monitors, speakers, keyboard and mouse. for less than the cost of the 3080. But I’m going to have to bite the bullet eventually.

@psimwork is correct. Future proofing is bullshit. New technology releases every 3-6 years which becomes cheaper and better than what your build has. Your build can realistically last 15+ years if you wanted it to. But in 5 years when let's say 1 or 2 new generation CPU + GPUs have been released and they're cheaper and perform better than your current build, you'll regret buying your overpriced build. Build for 4-6 years.

Since there are plenty of comments about future-proofing already, I'll focus on the build itself instead. I think you can get a better and cheaper white PC build with your budget.
