I've been using a surface pro tablet with a soft-touch keyboard since 2017, and would like to continue with that keyboard. Hence why I am leaning towards tablet-style. I keep my tech for a long time since my needs are fairly straightforward, so I want something that I won't need to replace for at least 6 years, hopefully longer since my Surface Pro 4 has survived 8 years. Is the latest Surface Pro tablet worth the cost more than a recent refurb? I don't do gaming at all, and will turn off the built in AI.

good question-- i tried Discord few years ago and it was so slow on my computer that i deleted it after a week. I probably wouldn't go back to it-- i don't need more timewasters/fandom spaces in my life.
i'm open to it if the keyboard is comfortable to use. some laptops have a hard edge that my wrist hits when i type.
sorry, what does Arm mean here? I have an iPad and iPhone but need a Windows machine for the times i need to access work docs at home.

New surface is on arm which might be a deal breaker for you. For your usage iPad pro or iPad air might be a better move if you don't need windows. Personally right now because of the state of laptops because of memory if a Mac makes sense I would lean Mac. m5 air referbished from apple is right at $1100, but that's more of a full laptop and if you don't like the keyboard there's not much way around it, for windows with a more traditional keyboard the dell xps 13 seems very solid, but I would personally only go with the 16gb ram model which does change its value proposition a lot.
If you've been happy with the Surface Pro, get the current generation. Or the previous gen will suffice for this use case. They got highly efficient and performant Snapdragon CPUs in the previous one, so it'll last even longer than the gen 4 with intel. An alternative would be iPad Air with magic keyboard or any case with a stand. iPadOS got windows now.
