I use Telegram for much more than just messaging friends. It's basically become my UI for interacting with my self-hosted services. For example: * Sending commands to trigger automations or services. * Receiving notifications that require confirmation or input. * Following RSS feeds that are filtered and summarized with AI before they reach me. I really like the simplicity of using a chat interface instead of building a dedicated frontend. I'm wondering if there's a self-hosted alternative that offers a similar experience. Ideally it would support bots, APIs/webhooks, and work well as a frontend for automation. Has anyone built something like this, or are there existing projects you'd recommend?

Ntfy? You can self-host it, set up communication channels, decide which users have access to what channels and whether they can send or just receive. You can have simple text-only messages or fancy ones with title, body, attachments etc.
Home Assistant companion app? That's how I get all my smart home notifications.

Probably any self hosted chat would work. Look for something compatible with Matrix or XMPP as these are the most feature rich and popular protocols. There are lots of servers, clients and libraries already available.
